Synara AI

Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 13, 2026

Synara is built on a simple principle: your data lives in your pod, and only in your pod. Synara does not operate any database that stores your personal information or browsing activity.

1. What Synara Captures

The Synara browser extension may capture the following data only when you are logged in and capture is enabled:

The Synara web app (ai.privatedatapod.com) reads data back from your pod to power AI search and recall.

2. Where Your Data Is Stored

All captured data is written exclusively to your own Solid Pod โ€” a personal data store that you control. Synara has no central database. Your memories are stored at a URL under your pod's storage root, for example:

/apps/synara/events/{type}/{YYYY}/{MM}/{DD}.json

You can read, export, or delete this data at any time using any Solid-compatible tool or by logging into your pod directly.

3. What Synara Does NOT Collect

The extension applies a privacy filter before any data is written. Sensitive field patterns (password fields, card numbers, SSNs, API keys) are scrubbed automatically.

4. AI Queries

When you use the "Ask Synara" feature, relevant memory snippets from your pod are sent to OpenAI's API to generate a response. This is done via a server-side proxy โ€” your OpenAI API key is never exposed in the browser.

The data sent to OpenAI is limited to the memory snippets relevant to your query. OpenAI's data handling is governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy. Synara does not retain or log the content of these queries.

5. Authentication

Synara uses the Solid-OIDC and WebID open standards for authentication. Your credentials are stored locally in your browser's extension storage and are never transmitted to any Synara server. Authentication happens directly between your browser and your pod provider.

6. Third-Party Services

Synara interacts with the following third-party services on your behalf:

No other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Synara does not retain any of your data. All data resides in your pod. To delete your Synara data, simply delete the /apps/synara/ container from your pod using your pod provider's interface or any Solid-compatible client.

To uninstall the extension, remove it from Chrome. This clears any locally cached credentials and settings stored in chrome.storage.

8. Children's Privacy

Synara is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used Synara, please contact us and we will assist with data deletion from any associated pod.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of Synara after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
